My Mom and Dad decided to take their chances and book a trip to the beach in early October.
The past several years that time of year has been very nice and we’ve had unusually warm temperatures so they decided that maybe they would get lucky and we would have the same. We saved a lot of money by booking in the off season and we’re all looking forward to our trip but as the day approach we got a little worried. The national weather forecast wasn’t looking that great but we had already paid for the rental so we decided to head out anyway. We did thankfully pack some of our sweatshirts and sweatpants in case it got cooler at night and we were very glad that we did so. The first two days that we were there or sunny and warm and we thought that we had dodged a bullet when it came to the weather, however, the remainder of the trip turned out to be cold and rainy and with nothing but a wood stove in the beach house we were freezing most of the time. My dad even went to the local hardware store to get a couple of those plug-in portable heaters just so that we could sleep at night. I’m not sure why my parents didn’t decide to just head home at that point I think they were just hoping that the weather would get better again. I did learn my lesson about vacationing during the offseason no matter where you are going, because even if it’s a good deal you aren’t able to take advantage of the things you normally would during the regular season. Most of the normal recreation things that we would have done we’re closed. The boat rental place was locked up for the season so we couldn’t even go out on the lake to fish.
